Do you see this silver fox?
Who is that gorgeous woman, you ask? Your mother? (I wish.) This is my Aunt Debbie. We have had a freakishly close relationship for my entire life, even though she lives halfway across the country. She is me-in 30 years. I spent every summer vacation with her commiserating over the torture of sitting on a beach in spandex swimsuits with all of our rolls for the world to see. We laughed and made jokes about our completely insane family. We call each other every time The Sound of Music comes on TV and we sing along together, completely off-key. I cried with her during my first breakup. She was there for me when I decided to move 500 miles away from my family and friends and promptly made plans to visit me there. Now, as I decide to make a huge change in my life once again, she offered to help me without any repayment in return except for “love and admiration”.
Well, this is my “love letter” to you Deb. Thank you for always being there for me, through thick and thin.
This summer, let’s reinstate the secret spandex society. We’re long overdue for a meeting of the thunder-thighs.
